Local firms scoop prizes at Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards

Finalists were announced virtually and awards were hand-delivered to cover a range of categories.

Just as businesses themselves have had to do, awards recognising business excellence in Lanarkshire have had to adapt to 2020.

Despite this year’s Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards event being cancelled due to Covid-19, the successes and achievements of Lanarkshire’s top firms were still recognised.

Finalists were announced virtually and awards hand-delivered to cover a range of categories, including Excellence in Customer Service, Best New Business, Community Impact and Apprentice of the Year.

There were no individual winners this time because of the circumstances that all businesses have faced in 2020, so all finalists received an award.

Finalists in the Lanarkshire’s Best New Business Category included Hamilton’s AGL Vehicle Solutions and Best HR, alongside Drone Scotland, from Uddingston. AGL also featured in Best Business (0-10 employees), as did Blantyre company Precise Installs.

Two more Blantyre businesses – Ivory Tower Weddings and Events and Stratum Masonry – were recognised for Excellence in Customer Service, and Procast, of Larkhall, was a finalist for the Lanarkshire Community Impact Award.

Drone Scotland featured again in the award for Lanarkshire’s Best New Product or Service alongside Equi’s Ice Cream, Love@Care and Polaris Diagnostics and Engineering, all from Hamilton. The awards, hosted by North and South Lanarkshire Councils, are a firm favourite in the business calendar.

Pamela Humphries, head of planning and regeneration at North Lanarkshire Council, said: “It’s been a very uncertain time for the business community, but we thought it was even more appropriate to recognise the businesses continuing to operate in these challenging times.

“We fully appreciate the effort and amount of work each of our finalists put into their applications to make it on to the competition short list. This is a fantastic achievement and to acknowledge this work and commitment to the awards, it was agreed each of our finalists would be presented with a trophy for 2020.

“When we see the economy slowly opening across the country, with circumstances varying for different sectors, we will continue to provide vital support to local businesses as they emerge from the pandemic. We are looking forward to working with businesses next year as our awards process moves forward.”

Pauline Elliott, head of planning and economic development at South Lanarkshire Council, added: “This has been a year like no other for businesses, with many having to strive just to keep their heads above water so it was only right we acknowledge all of those who, against the odds, managed to achieve a level of quality that saw them reach the stage of finalists.

“We are working with businesses of all types and sizes to help them navigate through these hugely difficult times, and as we congratulate this year’s finalists, we also look forward to next year’s awards being of a more familiar sort as a sign that business life has emerged from these times and grown stronger in the process.”

Organisers were grateful for the continued support of the awards’ sponsors: Red Tree Business Suites at Clyde Gateway; Lanarkshire Enterprise Services Ltd; ukse; Masonry Solutions; Visit Lanarkshire; Business Gateway Lanarkshire; CMS Window Systems City Facilities Holdings UK Ltd; Morgan Sindall; North Lanarkshire’s Working and South Lanarkshire’s Works 4 U.

It is hoped businesses can get together next year and share their experiences and the challenges of 2020.

A provisional date for the 2021 Awards has been set for Friday, September 3, at Motherwell Concert Hall
